The Time Card Calculator works out the hours worked in a week from the clock-in time, clock-out time and unpaid break you enter for each day. It shows the total as h:mm and as decimal hours, plus the days worked and the average per day. Use it as a time card clock calculator, a time card sheet calculator or a time punch clock calculator for any Monday-to-Sunday week.
It is free, needs no sign-up, and runs in your browser. The result updates as you type, so you can check a week’s hours before you rely on them. It also works as a weekly hours calculator for people paid by the hour who want to check a pay stub.

How to use the Time Card Calculator
- Look at the sample week that loads first, or press Reset to return to it.
- For each day, type the clock-in time and the clock-out time. You can use formats such as 9:00, 9.30, 0930, 5:30 pm or 17:30. Without am or pm, the number is read on the 24-hour clock.
- Type the unpaid break in minutes (30) or as h:mm (0:30). A bare number is minutes.
- Leave both boxes blank for a day off. A row with only an in time or only an out time shows an error that names the day.
- Optionally, type an hourly rate to see gross pay. Any currency works, and no symbol is added.
- Open More options to set rounding (5, 6, 10, 15 or 30 minutes; the default is no rounding), the overtime threshold in hours per week (default 40), and the overtime multiplier (default 1.5). A blank threshold means no overtime.
- Read the totals and the day-by-day table. Open How it was calculated under the result to see each step.
The preset buttons above the form load an Office week with 30 minute breaks, a Long week with overtime, or Night shifts past midnight. Copy result copies the result lines with a link. Copy link copies the page address, which stores all your inputs, so the same calculation can reopen later or be sent to someone else. Print / save as PDF produces a one-page record with the inputs, results, steps and date.
How to calculate time card hours
For each day, the hours are clock-out minus clock-in minus the unpaid break. Subtract in minutes first. For example, 9:00 to 17:30 is 8:30, and a 30 minute break leaves 8:00 hours.
To turn minutes into decimal hours, divide by 60. Fifteen minutes is 0.25 hours, so 39:15 equals 39.25 decimal hours. Payroll systems often use decimal hours, so check which format your employer uses.
If the out time is earlier than the in time, the tool treats the shift as running past midnight and adds 24 hours. A shift from 22:00 to 06:00 with no break is 8:00 hours, and the page shows a warning so you can confirm it.
Overtime works on the weekly total. With five days of 8:00 to 18:00 and a 60 minute break, each day is 9:00 and the week is 45:00. With a threshold of 40 and a multiplier of 1.5, that gives 40 regular hours and 5 overtime hours. At 20 per hour, pay is 40 × 20 + 5 × 20 × 1.5 = 950.00.
Rounding applies to each punch before the hours are added. The U.S. Department of Labor discusses rounding of punches in Fact Sheet #22.
How do you add up time card hours by hand?
Write each time as minutes after midnight, subtract, and subtract the break. For 8:00 to 17:00 with a 60 minute break, 17:00 is 1,020 minutes and 8:00 is 480 minutes, so the day is 540 − 60 = 480 minutes, or 8:00. Add the days together and divide the total minutes by 60 for decimal hours. The calculator does exactly this for each row and shows the working under “How it was calculated”.
When a week has more than one shift on a day, enter the earliest in time and the latest out time and put the gap in the break box, or use the Timesheet Calculator with one line per shift.

Frequently asked questions
How do I figure time card hours for a shift that crosses midnight?
Enter the real clock-in and clock-out times. If the out time is earlier than the in time, the calculator adds 24 hours and shows a warning, so you can confirm the shift.
Can I type times in different formats?
Yes. You can type 9:00, 9.30, 0930, 5:30 pm or 17:30. Without am or pm, the number is read on the 24-hour clock.
What does a blank row mean?
A blank row is a day off and adds no hours. A row with only one of the two times is an error, and the message names the day.
Why did the page warn about a day over 16 hours?
A day over 16 hours triggers a warning to check for a typing slip, such as a missing am or pm.
Is the time card calculator free, and is anything I type uploaded?
Yes, it is free and needs no account or sign-up. Everything is calculated in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded.
Can I print or share a calculation?
Yes. Print / save as PDF creates a one-page record with the inputs, results, calculation steps and the date. Copy link copies a page address that stores every input, so the same calculation can be reopened later or sent to someone else.
Is this tax or payroll advice?
No. Results are plain arithmetic on the numbers you enter, before any deduction. They are not legal, tax or payroll advice, and rules differ by country, state and contract.
