How to use the Hourly to Salary Calculator
- Type your hourly rate in the hourly rate box. To start from a typical case, tap a preset: 15 an hour, 25 an hour or 38.46 an hour.
- Set hours per week. The default is 40, and the maximum is 168.
- Set weeks per year. The default is 52, and the allowed range is 1 to 53.
- Set unpaid weeks off per year. The default is 0.
- Set days worked per week. The default is 5.
- If you need a different basis, open More options and choose “U.S. federal pay (OPM)”, which uses a fixed 2,087 hours a year.
- Read the annual pay result, then check the monthly, semi-monthly, biweekly, weekly and daily lines and the hours per year used. The results update as you type.
- Open “How it was calculated” under the result to see the formula with your own values.
Reset restores the starting example. For a quick comparison, the page also has a table showing weekly, monthly and annual pay at 20, 30, 35, 40 and 45 hours a week (standard basis only). To save your work, use Copy link, which stores every input in the page address so the same calculation reopens later. Print / save as PDF produces a one-page record with the inputs, results, calculation steps and date.
How to work out annual salary from hourly rate
To work out annual salary from an hourly rate, multiply the hourly rate by the number of paid hours in a year. The formula is annual pay = hourly rate × paid hours a year. Paid hours a year are hours per week multiplied by weeks per year.
With the default settings, a worker has 40 hours a week × 52 weeks = 2,080 paid hours. At 25 an hour, the annual pay is 25 × 2,080 = 52,000 a year.
How do I work out annual salary from hourly rate when I take unpaid weeks off?
Subtract the unpaid weeks from the weeks per year, then multiply the remaining weeks by the hours per week and the hourly rate. The calculator does this subtraction for you when you enter unpaid weeks off.
For example, a worker paid 32 an hour for 37.5 hours a week, with 2 unpaid weeks, works 50 paid weeks. That is 37.5 × 50 = 1,875 hours, and 32 × 1,875 = 60,000 a year. Unpaid weeks cannot be equal to or more than the weeks per year, and the page shows an error if they are.
How to work out your annual salary from hourly rate on the 2,087-hour basis
The “U.S. federal pay (OPM)” option uses a fixed divisor of 2,087 hours a year, instead of hours per week × weeks per year. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management describes this method in “Computing Hourly Rates of Pay Using the 2,087-Hour Divisor”, published on opm.gov in its pay administration fact sheets.
Under this basis, hours per week, weeks per year and unpaid weeks are not used. If your entries differ from 40, 52 and 0, the page shows a warning. For example, 30 an hour × 2,087 hours = 62,610.00 a year.
How do I work out monthly pay from an hourly rate?
Divide the annual pay by the number of pay periods in the year. Monthly pay is annual ÷ 12, semi-monthly is annual ÷ 24, biweekly is annual ÷ 26, and weekly is annual ÷ 52. Daily pay is the hourly rate × hours per day.
At 25 an hour and 40 hours a week, the annual pay is 52,000. That gives 4,333.33 a month, 2,166.67 semi-monthly, 2,000.00 biweekly, 1,000.00 a week and 200.00 a day. At 38.46 an hour, the annual pay is 79,996.80 and the monthly pay is 6,666.40. All these figures are gross arithmetic, meaning they are calculated before any deduction.

Frequently asked questions
Why are my hours per year different from 2,080?
The default is 40 hours a week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. Your figure changes if you change hours per week, weeks per year or unpaid weeks off. For example, 37.5 hours a week over 50 paid weeks gives 1,875 hours.
What does the 2,087-hour option do?
It uses a fixed 2,087 paid hours a year for the annual pay, based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management method. It ignores hours per week, weeks per year and unpaid weeks, and the page warns you if those entries differ from the standard values.
What errors does the calculator show?
The page shows an error if the rate is empty, non-numeric, zero or negative. It also shows one if hours per week are more than 168, weeks per year are more than 53, or unpaid weeks are not fewer than the weeks per year.
Can I use the calculator for a salary that is not hourly?
The calculator starts from an hourly rate. If you have a salary and want the hourly equivalent, use the salary to hourly calculator instead.
Is the hourly to salary calculator free, and is anything I type uploaded?
Yes, it is free and needs no account or sign-up. Everything is calculated in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded.
Can I print or share a calculation?
Yes. Print / save as PDF creates a one-page record with the inputs, results, calculation steps and the date. Copy link copies a page address that stores every input, so the same calculation can be reopened later or sent to someone else.
Is this tax or payroll advice?
No. Results are plain arithmetic on the numbers you enter, before any deduction. They are not legal, tax or payroll advice, and rules differ by country, state and contract.
